Target Beauty Box Review November 2017

November had barely even started and my Target Beauty Box had arrived in the mail. Yes, my busy (lazy?) ass hasn't gotten around to reviewing it until halfway through the month but let's pretend that gave me more time to experience the items within, shall we?

Every month Target releases a new beauty box containing items that are available within Target stores and online. Samples are often sample sized but every now and then you might score a full sized item in a box and the cost ranges from $5 to $10 per box. The beauty of this lies in the fact that this is not a subscription. For those of us who have commitment issues, there is no need to cancel a subscription; Target simply sends an email every month to previous beauty box customers alerting them of the availability of a new box. Boxes are also one per purchase, available online only and they frequently sell out quite quickly, depending on the popularity of the items any particular month. In an attempt to make me eat my own words, at $7 this month's box is still available. Note: Please forgive the shitty lighting throughout the post. Daylight savings has ended and kicked my ass with its exit. I haven't seen daylight in weeks with my work schedule.

I received:

Dove Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner - $0.75
Skinfix Ultra Rich Hand Cream - $3.33
Missha Super Aqua Cell Renewal Sheet Mask - $6.00 Full Sized
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser - $0.56
Tom's Creamy Coconut Natural Beauty Bar - $1.08 Cruelty Free, Vegan
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara - $1.59

Dove Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner
I have dandruff (gross). Anti-Dandruff shampoo does nothing for me. At least this was a resealable bottle with quite a bit of product in it, enough for four washes, in fact. The smell was non-existent, it was just a basic shampoo. I also noticed zero hydration with my hair, but then I walked into this poo-pooing a multitasking shampoo. Sorry, guys. I'm also backed up on open shampoo from previous boxes so I guess this wasn't a loss, it just added nothing to my shower experience.

Skinfix Ultra Rich Hand Cream
I absolutely fell in love with this unimposing hand cream. One patch test of this and I realized it's perfect for my basketball belly. This hand cream smells almost like... what I imagine a eucalyptus and cucumber La Croix would taste and it is so intensely hydrating that I almost feel bad wasting this on my hands. It does leave a bit of a coating but then it hydrates far better than any hand creams I've tried recently. I even convinced my husband to slather just a dollop of this on his Fred Flintstone feet and he is now hell bent on buying a $10 bottle on our next trip to Target. This from the man who refuses to pamper himself and I have to buy him a birthday pedicure and Christmas boxers because he was too cheap selfless to spend any money on himself.

Missha Super Aqua Cell Renewal Sheet Mask
Remember all of that bitching about sheet masks I've done in the past? I might have to retract a couple of those statements, but only some. This might be the closest I've ever come to enjoying a sheet mask. So starting off I accidentally dropped it in the sink when I was trying to pull it out of the packaging. The mask comes in two parts, a top half and a bottom half, for a better fit. It has a weird, slippery plastic/silicone woven texture to it and it's crazy moist without being a dripping mess. The instructions said to leave the mask on for 20-40 minutes which is one hell of a gap of uncertainty. Overall I cannot justify the cost of sheet masks, especially this one at $6 but this one has by far been my favorite that I've ever received with my second favorite being the Bonvivant Sheet Masks from my November 2016 Ipsy bag. After taking this mask off I fell right asleep and did not really worry about being too sticky or coated; it was the perfect ratio of mask to essence. I woke up feeling hydrated and refreshed. It does bother me that this mask contains snail mucin; I'm not bothered by the mucin itself but rather how it was likely harvested.

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser
I vaguely remember receiving this in a previous Target Beauty Box and being underwhelmed. So what do I do? Of course I use this sample too to refresh my memory, then become angry that I dislike the product and find it to be less than memorable. It is too mild and provides absolutely no lather. This scentless cream product would be great for people with sensitive skin, however even then I feel like there are better products out there to provide a thorough cleaning.

Tom's Creamy Coconut Natural Beauty Bar
This little guy was a bit of a surprise. I typically enjoy liquid/cream body washes over bar soaps but I really enjoyed this bar soap. It smells great but subtle. The scent isn't an indulgent coconut scent but rather a freshly clean coconut water aroma. It lathered beautifully and was quite creamy and hydrating. I did not feel scummy afterwards which I find is a common side effect of bar soaps. Like I said, I don't usually reach for cake soaps but if this was available I'd reach for it in a heartbeat. I also love that I can get such efficacy in the form of a vegan product.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara
I'm overrun with mascaras right now but I will never complain when presented with a new one. I love the godawful colored packaging on this mascara; it's like a super late '80s/early '90s throwback with it's vibrant pink and dayglo green. Total nostalgia. The wand is on the smaller side making it very easy to work with. This mascara provided decent definition but it did not perform any miracles with regards to length or volume. It also budges a little bit-I was at work telling some obscene story about my husband's goofiness, laughed myself to tears and ended up looking like The Joker circa The Dark Knight. I did love receiving this mascara though because it's a complete throwback to my early college years on those rare days where I would actually wear makeup (mascara and lip gloss).

Wow, what does that say about a beauty box when the highlight of the box was a sheet mask? But holy damn, as far as sheet masks go this one was impressive. My second pick is the hand cream because it's the most useful item in the box to me at this point with winter swiftly approaching and my belly rapidly expanding. This month's box value totaled in at $13.31, not bad for the $7 it cost. I feel like the one thing to keep in mind about the Target Beauty Box is that while you will always come out ahead in value, the primary objective of the box is to introduce customers to store inventory, not to provide an overwhelming value to the consumer.
